| I had the pleasure to photograph the ladies over at Ultimate Salon in Muskegon, Michigan. They are a great bunch... I had a ton of fun. | Photo Before and After |

| My oldest daughter, Mariah, is a typical tween. Shy, insecure about her appearance, and otherwise camera shy. Sporting a new layered hair cut, what is a photographer supposed to do? I broke out a AB800 light with softbox, using our walls as a reflector to even out the lighting... time to grab a photo of the new haircut! She cooperated, thankfully! In our makeshift, hurry-up-and-shoot situation, the lighting was fairly flat. So, to remedy this, I ran the photo through Photoshop, using a curves adjustment for contrast, dodge and burn to separate her from the background, added some color around the eyes and cheeks, healed some facial blemishes, and ran a highpass filter as a vivid light layer, as well as a color layer. Before the editing, the original photo: ![]() After the editing: ![]() Mariah, being as insecure as she is, about her looks, absolutely loved the results. Another pre-teen, satisfied. And this one happens to be my biggest critic! +dan |

| The other morning greeted me with an incredible view. It was a foggy morning, with the sun breaking through the mist. This photo was taken at the edge of a wooded area, near where I live. The wisps of fog made for a very photogenic scene. The photo was processed using a high pass filter, to give it a silver appearance. Enjoy! ![]() |

| A Few Updates |
| posted in news/commentary on 26 August, 2009 by Dan Harvell. |
| A lot has been happening, here at 7|10. Here's a run down of the low down: We have moved. Our main office is now in Spring Lake, Michigan. We find this area offers a lot more conveniences than did Shelby. Though Shelby is a beautiful town, we feel we can better serve the entire West Michigan area from Spring Lake. Worry not, though... our area of service has NOT changed, at all. Another upgrade we have experienced is an upgrade in technology. We updated our computer system to a bigger, faster, better work station. This will allow us to process photos slightly faster... and we no longer have to worry about running out of storage. Bigger, faster, better! Speaking of faster and better, our new location allowed us to look into better Internet connections. We now have Charter cable Internet and it is blazing fast. That said, if you ever need to send us a large file, we can better accept it! Isn't technology wonderful? +dan 7|10 Studio Photography |

| An Evening At Medbery |

| My family took a 3-hour vacation, yesterday, at beautiful Medbery Park [in Montague, Michigan]. Medbery is one of my favourite places to visit with my photography equipment. Beautiful sunsets, interesting people, breathtaking scenery... Yesterday was no disappointment. During my walk around, I met a group of adventurous pier divers who were kind enough to allow me to shoot some photos of them. These two ladies made for some awesome shots with their synchronised dive. That, and the fact that they were darned photogenic made photographing them an easy job! These photos were cross-processed to give them an edgier look. 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() 6. ![]() As impressive as the synchronised diving was, this pier jumper asked if I had ever seen a front flip dive. Thinking that watching him attempt this would be worthy of some shots, I followed him as he attempted his dive. After all, worst case, watching somebody crash and burn always makes for interesting photography, right? Forget that... he showed me that there is one thing that makes for more interesting photography... and that is actually succeeding his front flip dive. I caught some good shots of him in mid-air... and making his landing [these photos, also cross-processed]: 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() As the sun made its way to the Western sky, I set up my new lighting equipment [as described in my previous blog entry]. My wife was kind enough to do some posed shots, for me. She typically acts as my photographic assistant, during assignments, but she made for a darn good model. 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() After these shots, we packed up and headed home. Once again, Medbery proved to be a great place to visit. With its sunsets, interesting people, and breathtaking scenery... By the way... if those who I gave my card to at Medbery wishes to contact me, feel free. If you do, I'll send you a link where you can download larger versions of the photos I posted on this entry. Nice meeting y'all! +dan |
