"Deidre: Cross Processed (23/365)" Today's entry isl a lesson, as well as a photo-a-day entry. The lesson is Butterfly Lighting. It's called Butterfly Lighting, because of the shadow under the nose resembles (slightly) a butterfly. It is achieved by placing the key light 2-feet above the camera, directly behind the photographer. Optionally, you can have accent lights for the hair. In this case, the light on camera LEFT has a 20-degree snoot and the light on camera RIGHT has a 30-degree honeycomb grid to give the hair a little kick. The processing that gives this photo the strange color is called Cross Processing (or XPro). It originated in the 1980s when a photographer accidentally developed his color positive in the wrong solution, giving the photo a strange, yellowish-orange tint. In this case, it really helps bring out the blonde of the hair. ![]()

"Madison - Short Light (22/365)" In photography, there are many methods one can use to light a subject. This particular method is called Short Lighting. It is called "short", because rather than having the main light fall on the side of the face that is closer to the camera (the broad side), the main light hits the side of the face that is away from the camera (the short side). This type of lighting can be used to create a sense of mystery and sophistication to the subject - even if the subject is a young girl in her PJs. ![]()

"Water Drops (21/365) Parts I-IV" I couldn't decide which water drop I liked better, so today's photo-a-day entry has 4 parts! Lighting was a red gel modified AlienBee AB800, overhead, with a blue gel modified AlienBee AB800 pointing directly left to right. I. ![]() II. ![]() III. ![]() IV. ![]()

"Leaving (20/365)" Yesterday's breathtaking sunset preempted my idea for a photo-a-day photograph. Since today was horribly overcast, I had no distractions and went forward with yesterday's idea. Thank you to Deidre for being the driver required to execute this time-lapse photo. Photo was exposed on "BULB" mode for 23-seconds at f/20, 28mm, using the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L lens. ![]()

I had a specific photo in mind, for today's pic-a-day challenge photo. In order to execute this photo I had planned, it had to be completely dark, outside. So, as I waited for night to fall, I happened to glance Westward. To my amazement, the clouds that were hanging in the sky all day were beginning to part - right at sunset! The parting clouds reflected the beauty of the sunset, creating the illusion that the sky was set ablaze. I will put my original photographic plan on hold for a later day. For today's photograph, I give you this: ![]()
